Based in Essex with an extensive in-house stone masonry workshop and yard, we cover London, the South and Southeast.
Description
USL works extensively across the heritage sector, including places of worship, historic buildings, castles, local authorities, civic projects, as well as education, commercial fit‑outs, private residences, monuments and specialist commissions. Universal Stone’s core capabilities include stone masonry and carving, external cleaning and repairs, specialist brickwork and moulded bricks, lime and traditional mortar repairs, and traditional roofing and leadwork for listed buildings.
As principal contractor, we provide fully integrated project delivery from initial conservation consultancy and surveys, technical specification and planning, through to restoration, stonework, joinery, decorative metalwork, drainage and more. The team combine traditional craft skills with modern conservation techniques to manage complex reordering, refurbishments and sensitive restorations oflisted buildings. We are equally passionate and adept at the small and intricate as we are the challenging and complex.
Members of Stone Federation, CHAS, CITB, and Constructionline, USL partners with heritage bodies and trusts (such as Historic England, The National Trust, Church Conservation Trust), church dioceses,local authorities and Conservation Architects to deliver compliant, durable and sensitive solutions that preserve historic fabric and enhance long‑term value.
