Description

ADAM Architecture is the leading practice specialising in Classical and Traditional architecture, and contextual urban design.

The practice has offices in Winchester and London, and is run by Hugh Petter, George Saumarez Smith, Robbie Kerr, Darren Price and Robert Cox. As Design Directors they lead their own projects, with their own design ethos, while all working together as experts in the field of classical and traditional architecture.  We are recognised worldwide for our award-winning projects, which range in scale from private houses and the restoration of historic buildings, to commercial and public buildings, to masterplans including village extensions and major housing developments.

The Directors are consulted by government agencies and ministries on policy and design, and several urbanism projects have been cited as exemplar examples in recent government publications. They are trustees of national interest groups and prominent in professional affairs. They are active members or trustees of many national and international architectural and urban design organisations, including the RIBA, the Prince’s Foundation, the Academy of Urbanism,  The Georgian Group, the British School at Rome, and the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism (INTBAU).

Historic Buildings
ADAM Architecture has a wealth of expertise in historic buildings and traditional design. This makes us ideally suited to carrying out sympathetic alterations to listed buildings and other historic structures.

We do not perceive listing to be a barrier to great design. With our experience in traditional architecture, we are ideally placed to complement the original historic fabric with traditional designs and materials, while improving both sustainability and energy performance, and the suitability of buildings for modern use and enjoyment. We believe that new work should be carried out in a traditional form to complement the original design.

We have an experienced in-house historical researcher, Dr Helen Lawrence-Beaton, and a dedicated historic buildings team. The ADAM Architecture directors are actively involved in the running of several heritage bodies and committees, and regularly comment on emerging local and national heritage policy.
